The magic of Samhain...

The magic of Samhain...

As someone who marks the points throughout the wheel of the year and use’s rituals as mini resets, and moments to pause throughout the year.

We’ve reached the final point in the wheel of year, Samhain or more popularly known as Halloween.

It’s the opposite festival to Beltane which is about welcoming fertility and light.

So as we welcome the darkness and death of the year that’s passed the wheel will begin again after Samhain.

I’ve always loved Halloween and all the fun aspects to it and who doesn’t love carving a pumpkin ( look below at the picture ), dressing up, and even my nails of course go black for the season and all of these type of festivities.

There is a deeper meaning to this point and a magic to work with, it’s known as the festival of darkness and death and it’s a great time to honour our ancestors and those who have passed on as the veil is thinner between our world and the spirit world.

It’s the energy of the crone, so there’s deep wisdom to be felt of the crone even though she is seen as a haggard old women, the crone has lived and is full knowledge and has nothing to prove and has so much to share. We need to honour the crone energy more in society, as youth is what is seen as desirable and valued, so this is the perfect time to reflect and think about this and what it means to you whether you are a man or a women.

Here’s what I do to mark this period.

I love to have a candle lit meal and a feast to prepare for the wheel starting again.

I love to write and reflect on the year that has passed and release this and burn it or as I say to people flush it down the toilet if you can’t burn it.

Then I write what I want to call in moving forward as the wheel begins to turn again.

I use the time to sit in the dark in candle light to pause and reflect even if it’s just for an hour. Our perception of darkness is everything, if we view it as scary it can feel like that, but if we view it as a place that we can sit, reflect and illuminate it’s powerful.

Pausing in our lives is so important, it’s as vital as action, as it brings in divine balance, and allows us to reset, rest and see where we are at.

Here’s an old blog post all about the power of the pause.

I like to do a meditation thanking my ancestors who’ve walked before me and that any things we are holding on to that don’t serve us we’ve carried through, to be released.

I also love to write a letter to anyone that passed and place this by a candle for a day, of course you can do this any time, its just the energy is more powerful on this day. It can be hard sitting with death as it feels so final, so finding ways we can connect to those who have passed is helpful to feel and remember their memory.

It’s also the perfect time to get out in nature and really connect with season, nature is really dying off now and releasing what has been, take yourself out in the air and breathe it in.

Remember with ritual, however we do it it’s the intention and good energy behind it that matters, do what feels good for you, I find simplicity is the key rather than complicating things.

This past year of 2020 has been intense and tough in ways no one could’ve of imagined, using points like this to release, pause and reset is helpful.

Get intentional on what needs to be released and what is dying off, and then ask yourself what do you want to bring in or what changes need to be made.

Remember with all of this, it can be the small things if the bigger things feel overwhelming, it all counts.

Don’t forget to bring some fun into your rituals too, the energy of joy and fun always elevates the things we do.

Lastly we have a powerful blue full moon on Halloween this year, so the energy is even more potent to support this.

Happy Samhain / Halloween.

I’d to hear if you love this season.

All my love Hannah X
