The positive unexpected ....
What’s your relationship with dealing with the unexpected even when its a positive thing?
Do you embrace it?
Or do you struggle to let it land with you?
Do you believe you deserve it?
In the this post I will be talking about positive unexpected, the flip to that I will share in another post and how to navigate that.
What I’ve come to realise is while having direction, intention and a plan is a good thing to get you in the direction you want to go and do the the things you want to achieve.
Leaving space and being open to the unexpected is important as well, a phrase I really love is when moving towards something is “this or something better”.
That “something better" could come from the unexpected, the thing with the unexpected it may feel uncomfortable even if its good. Simply because it wasn’t what you were expecting or its your perception that “its the wrong time” or it’s radically different to what you thought but also is not a bad thing. The unexpected can feel a wild place, and what’s important is rather than running away from it or pushing it away or getting annoyed because it wasn’t part of your plan. If it feels good sit in the discomfort of it and ask yourself “what are the feelings underneath this?” and “what’s it bringing up?”.
The unexpected can be found in anything from love, work, where you’re heading, friendship or even down to something you were creating in your life.
That’s why having some space for it is really helpful.
How our nervous system interacts with the unexpected tells us a lot, the unexpected won’t always feel safe in our bodies and nervous system. So regulating from this place is the key, and understanding why your nervous system felt like this is also important.
I know for me personally it feels safe in my nervous system when I know where I’m going etc, so it can throw me when something is unexpected even when its good. I have to let it land with me and regulate with that and learn to trust it.
I recognise though that the unexpected is often bringing something greater, and even though it’s not what I expected it will actually positively affect my life and enrich it in all ways.
Recently I encountered the unexpected from a situation and embracing that has been beautiful in all ways, and very healing and heart opening too, as it has allowed me to work through my layers of resistance around this. Its actually better than what I could’ve of imagined, and don’t get me wrong I’ve had to work through the things that have came and why I’ve wanted to run. But what it has shown me is truly the magic of the unexpected and why being open to it, is a good thing. It’s also made me look at past situations in my life where I could see this at play and it has been good to feel the appreciation for this.
Don’t get me wrong I still love direction and a plan and that has allowed me to achieve things in my life, but leaving that gap for the unexpected “this or something better” has been a very good thing too.
I’m not saying it’ll always be easy to embrace it or even see it at first, but I’m inviting you be open to the unexpected as you’re moving through your life journey and even if its off the plan or in a different direction. It may well be the exact place, person, or opportunity you need.
I could write so much more on this, but for now I’ll leave it here.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
All my love
